Supplementing #IABCLI

Many of you have attended our annual Leader Summit in October. This year, I’ll be planning virtual events to supplement what’s offered by IABC International’s new year-round Leadership Institute (#IABCLI) experience. Please tell us what topics you’d like to cover by completing this short survey!

Our first Southern Region Leader Session will cover the topic of Communications. I hope that at a minimum your President, President-Elect and VP Communications will join us. A meeting request has been sent to all chapter leaders for October 21, 2020, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. CST. We look forward to seeing you!

connect2comms Conference

The 2020 Virtual connect2comms IABC Southern Region Conference will take place virtually November 11–13. Click here to register. We are so pleased to announced Denise Jacobs as our keynote speaker who will tell us how to banish our inner critic and nurture our creativity!

Broadcasting Your Events

We want to help your chapter register attendees for your virtual events. Please put your chapter events into this form so we can communicate them to our Southern Region community. As a reminder, please allow any IABC member to attend your sessions under the member fee.

Zoom Account

We’re always looking for ways to support our chapters and with our current virtual meeting challenges, we’re offering chapters access to our Southern Region Zoom account to host virtual meetings and events. Click here for more info.

Please Include These Items In Your Chapter’s Communication…

Our Southern Region distribution list includes all Southern Region members, but what we’re missing is all those active non-members you have in your chapter lists! For this reason, we really appreciate you sharing the following news on your own channels:

  • Please include #IABCSouthernand tag us in your social media posts so we can repost and share your event and program details!
  • Please share our connect2comms Conference posts on your own social media channels and include this information in your newsletters.
    • And, be on the lookout for a chapter tool-kit to help you promote the Conference—coming soon!
  • You can find many other items to share on our Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Please share on your chapter pages!

Thank You

I want to especially thank each of you who participated as Silver Quill judges and who nominated a colleague for the Southern Region Leadership Awards. We appreciate you!

Hello Southern Presidents, Past Presidents, and President Elects,

For those I may not have met before, my name is Jordan Nagel and I’m serving as VP Leadership Development for IABC Southern Region. My role is to support you as leaders and connect you with one another to help you fill any gaps or share best practices. I work very closely with Linda Wesley, VP Chapter Services, and Don Klausmeyer, VP Region Development. We have a lot of work to do this year, as every chapter is working through challenges of their own. Please reach out to me anytime and let me know what you’re struggling with.

Supplementing #IABCLI

Many of you have attended our annual Leader Summit in October. This year I’ll be looking to plan virtual events to supplement what’s offered by IABC International’s new year-round Leadership Institute (LI) experience. As an example, we may have a session focused on finances and we’ll ask our VP Finance to lead a conversation with all chapter treasurers.  If you have any ideas for topics that would be helpful to your chapter please let me know.

Leader Resources

We’ve established a new Leader Resources page on our website full of the latest info for leaders and topics we’re asking you to share with your chapter distribution lists. There are two important updates I want to be sure you are aware of:

  1. The new Southern Region Leadership Awards are open for nomination. We’d like to extend the deadline to close Sunday, August 23, 2020, as we had very few entries.  Our request is that each chapter board put forward a nomination for each category. These awards honor professional achievements not necessarily IABC work.
  2. We are offering you access to our Zoom account for your meetings. Submit this form to request access.
  3. Please include #IABCSouthern and tag us in your social media posts so we can repost and share your event and program details!

I look forward to working with you all this year. Please do not hesitate to reach out at any time!

Silver Quill is alive and well!

This year we’ve added two new divisions specific to COVID communications. The Call for Entries is open from July 21 through September 21, 2020. We’ll celebrate the winners at our IABC Southern Region Virtual Awards Gala on November 12, 2020. Everything you need to know about the Silver Quill Awards can be found here.

Honor a chapter member with a Southern Region Leadership Award nomination!

This year we are very excited to revive our Southern Region Leadership Awards, and I can’t think of a better time to recognize communicators who are rising above in this time of crisis. The leadership awards honor professional achievement in three categories: Rising Star, Communicator of the Year (COTY), and Hall of Fame. We encourage you to make nominations as a board or chapter. Winners will be announced at our IABC Southern Region Virtual Awards Gala on November 12, 2020. Find out more here.

The latest on the Southern Region Conference…

Though we haven’t announced it yet, we have made the decision to defer our Denver connect2comms conference to 2021. We are now discussing other options for 2020 and will update you as soon as we’ve made a decision. We appreciate any feedback to our Conference VP, Mary Hardin Francis.

Some COVID links that might interest you…

There’s some great info on communicating during COVID, remote working, templates, webinars, and #PostCorona. COVID links of interest can be found here.

Please include these items in your chapter’s communication…
